Protecting the long-term future of the art community in San Francisco means supporting the city’s youth who express a special interest in art. ArtSpan partners with organizations throughout the city to produce Youth Open Studios, showcasing the work of young artists during SFOS each fall. Since launching in 2014, Youth Open Studios has helped fuel the creative visions of over 500 young artists. “Working with the youth artists on their Open Studios exhibition is always a transformative experience. I’ve witnessed students in tears by the end of the show– so proud of selling their first piece of artwork, or exhibiting publicly as an artist for the first time. By empowering students to plan and host their own art shows, their creative vision, self-expression, and collaboration skills are nurtured and they emerge more confident and capable to do great things in the future.” Rachel Znerold Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, Teaching Artist
