Artist Spotlight: Dilcia Giron
Map #357e Dilcia’s work reflects her artistic journey and attempts to break free from the ordinary human experience to transform it into something more relevant and extraordinary. “I look for a new language, a new way of seeing, a new way of experiencing life.” Dilcia grew up in El Salvador where, during the violent civil war, artists and intellectuals were persecuted for their free-thinking. El Salvador’s rapidly evolving society instilled in her a familiarity and affinity for change. In her practice, she experiments with a limitless variety of mediums, from painting to collage to printmaking to assemblage. Her art is a result of these constant searches for purity and freedom of expression. “Art enhances our human experience on this planet by igniting our minds and making us curious, by increasing our awareness and expanding our minds to endless possibilities.”
